Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche was a German Philosopher, Poet, Cultural critic and Scholar who published most if his works in the 1870’s and 1880’s. He became famous for criticizing traditional European morals and religion as well as social and political ideas associated to modernity. His writings have resulted to an enormous influence on Western philosophy and intellectual history.

Nietzsche held a skeptical view on modern society and his perspectives stands against the idea of mainstream culture. His views were that the press and mass culture encouraged conformity and therefore brought about mediocrity. Nietzsche observed a lack of intellectual progress, prompting the decline of the human species. He believed humans were able to become superior individuals through self discipline and will power. By transcending this mass culture, society would create better, more intelligent and stronger human beings.
