Brief Information:

Aristotle (Aristoteles in Greek) was a Greek philosopher born in 384 B.C. in Stagira, Greece. Nicomachus, his father, was court physician to the Macedonian King and died when Aristotle was still a young boy. There is little information about his mother Phaestis, but it is believed that she died during Aristotle’s younger years as well. He was raised by Proxenus of Atarneus, the husband of his older sister, until he came of age.

Proxenus sent Aristotle to Athens at the age of seventeen where he studied in Plato’s academy. Aristotle spearheaded efficient, scientific examination in almost every range of human knowledge in his era. In the year 338 B.C., Aristotle also tutored Alexander the Great who was then only 13 years of age. In 335 B.C., he founded his own school in Athens which was named “The Lyceum” where he spent most of his time studying and writing. He is usually connected and grouped alongside with Socrates and Plato as the three greatest Greek philosophers.
